In an effort to offset a one million dollar shortfall in the industrial tax base in Quesnel, the City has had to reduce several positions in both the exempt and the union staff.
The first layoff notices were handed out two weeks ago, and now the bumping process has begun causing more layoff notices to be given out.
Moral at all city work sites is at an all time low, with the bumping and layoff process expecting to carry on into March.
In the end staff reductions will have occurred at City Hall, the Museum, Bylaw and the Public Works Yard.

Bargaining...

Bargaining talks have come to an end as of Wednesday May 26, 2010, with the City tabling a final offer that would be the worst municipal deal in BC.
This left the Union no choice but to call for a STRIKE VOTE.
A vote was held on May 26, 2010 and 91% voted in favour of job action.
A meeting with the Mayor and one Councilor was held on June 2, 2010, in an effort to get talks back on track and avoid any possible job action.
CUPE Local 1050's contract expired on June 8, 2010.
Mediation has been applied for.
